My Latest Podcast Listens, Q1 2023

Here are three interesting podcasts I’ve picked up in the first quarter of the year. Hopefully a bit off the beaten track and something new! You should be able to find them easily at your favourite podcast provider.

Fall of Civilizations
https://fallofcivilizationspodcast.com

I’m not gonna lie, history didn’t really do it for me at school, but with age and wisdom comes a renewed appreciation. Believe it or not I got a link to this one indirectly from playing a video game – Civilization 6. I started getting quite interested in the stories of the historical characters and the locations. Went looking for more, stumbled on this podcast, it’s of an incredible high quality, long form story telling. Highly recommended.

HBR Coaching Real Leaders
https://hbr.org/2020/12/podcast-coaching-real-leaders

Essentially eavesdropping on a coaching situation – a real time conversation between the executive coach and the individual. Really helpful dialogs if you manage, lead, coach or mentor people. It’s a great reminder that asking smart questions and offering reflection is a powerful instrument.

Cal Newport Deep Questions
https://www.thedeeplife.com/listen/

I love Cal Newport’s books – Deep Work, Digital Minimalism. This is basically his podcast doing Q&A on various topics week to week. It’s usually quite long. I don’t listen to every episode, and it may not be for everyone, but if you buy into his philosophy you’ll find things to like here.

Another list at the end of June!
